Requirement: To provide instantaneous, repeatable and long cycle-life shut-off control.
Process Liquid: 33% concentration of sulphuric acid H2SO4.
Inlet Pressure & Temperature: Gravity feed (head pressure from tank and 15' pipe) and ambient temperature.
Product that Solved the Problem: Series EASMT4V12W20-PV PTFE Bellows Solenoid Valve; PTFE & Viton® seals, Geon® PVC body, NEMA 4X coil.
An automobile battery manufacturer had used pneumatically operated filling tubes prior to Plast-O-Matic True Blue Solenoid Valves, and had continual problems with accuracy and maintenance. With a simple header installation and a two stage filling sequence, the company improved capacity to approximately 13,000 batteries per day. Because of the corrosion resistance and multi-million cycle life provided by the valves, the battery manufactures enjoys virtually uninterrupted service.
Other True-Blue valves used in battery filling or other sulphuric acid H2SO4 applications include Series BSR Air-Operated Shutoff Valves, Series ABVA & ABRA Air-Actuated Ball Valves, and Series GGM Gauge Guards with acrylic shields. Beware of imitations, particularly among actuated ball valves. Many of the thermoplastic materials used in "corrosion resistant" actuators are not resistant to sulphuric acid H2SO4. Also, many actuated valves have non-wetted internal metal parts. While these parts are isolated from liquid process, many valve designs are still subject to atmospheric corrosion. By specifying Plast-O-Matic True Blue Valves for sulphuric acid H2SO4, you are assured of a product designed for -- and proven in -- harsh environments.
The battery filling operation described above has been simplified for the purposes of this illustration. The specifics within any given system can vary greatly. Our Technical Group is on hand to assist you in specifying the right valve for the job; please call 973-256-3000 to speak to a sales engineer.
Please note that the features listed above apply to many manufacturers valves, but the specifics refer only to Plast-O-Matic products. For the purposes of this comparison, certain specifications inherent to specialized or unusual models are not addressed.
